What Is A Dynamic Microphone?

After years of thorough research and development, scientists finally invented the first ever Dynamic microphone in 1931.

A dynamic microscope is a revised form of a microscope. It operates under sound waves that make a wire vibrate in a magnetic field to ultimately give off current, and finally be converted back to sound.

Why dynamic microphone

Dynamic microphones are versatile and perfect for general use. They are also designed in a simple manner yet are rugged and resistant to rough handling. What makes them unique is that they have frequency responses that are specifically designed for certain types of applications. Therefore, unlike other types of microphones such as condensers that operate under the same flat frequency, they are confined to specific applications. This vibrates the coil and a magnet that is located within the coil creates a magnetic field producing electric signals in return. Dynamic microphones are identified as “velocity sensitive.” This is because the motion of the diaphragm producing the amount of current determines the speed of that motion.

Dynamic microphones are extremely flexible as they can withstand high sound pressures like the pressure created by kick drums. In addition, they are relatively cheaper yet produce better quality sound. They don’t need any power source to operate under. This makes their use extremely convenient, especially for portable purposes.

The characteristic directionality of a microphone is basically known as its polar pattern and every microphone in the world has one. Why polar patterns matter is because they affect the ability of a microphone of reacting to sound coming from different angles. Dynamic microphones have a cardioid polar pattern which helps them filter background noise and recording only the artist’s voice in isolation. Therefore, solo performances are best performed and recorded using dynamic microphones.
